KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Michimich -- Communities across the world are benefiting from the social investing philanthropy made by the contributions of Kalamazoo MI and Grand Rapids MI business owner, Anton R. Williams. He has created the Anton Robert Williams Holding Company, the Anton R Williams Foundation and the Global Missions Network Foundation with the intent to have a positive impact in the lives of people in everything from food security, housing, health care to employment opportunities.
What is unique about this story is that Anton Williams, a ninth generation heir of his 1700's era slave-owner ancestor named David Williams, is himself an African American. Even more distinct is that one of Anton's forebears, Archie P. Williams of Natchez MS was a wealthy heir and free person of color in the time of slavery. A.P. Williams was a mixed-race slave owner himself who after the era of slavery operated several businesses throughout the U.S. and had wealth amounting to about $300 million in today's currency matching the amounts owned by prior generations of his Williams lineage.
Anton himself owns some of the holdings of David Williams and Archie P. Williams passed through inheritance and wealth transfers which were largely built up by slave labor. David Williams and his immediate successor generations of Williams were among the slaveholders with the most slaves in the United States. They had cotton, corn, tobacco and sugar plantations on over 1 million acres from Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida to Virginia and Ohio. The labor of the slaves that was used to enrich the Natchez Williams slaveholders in the 1700's and 1800's is now in this 21st century being disbursed by an heir of their slave-holdings, Anton R. Williams, to the benefit of populations across the U.S. and the world. His companies assist with food security, homelessness, medical and health care, education and a wide range of other areas including employment. Anton is the founder of the Global Missions Network Foundation which supports over 25,000 mission personnel and partners in over 200 countries. Their impact is multiplied when church pastors, planters, missionaries, and personnel extend their work to other communities to benefit from the humanitarian efforts. It's through this effort that millions of people across the world are very positively impacted by this operation. The Global Missions Network Foundation and the Anton R. Williams Foundation are totally self funded by Anton Williams.
