DETROIT, April 14, 2025 ~ Detroit, MI - DABO Inc., formerly known as The Detroit Association of Black Organizations, is proud to announce its 46th anniversary celebration. This milestone marks over four decades of dedicated service to the Detroit community, promoting self-sufficiency, health, and wellness through transformative programs and a powerful network of over 130 member organizations.

Founded in 1979, DABO has remained a steadfast force in metro Detroit, continuously striving to build a better city through education, empowerment, and engagement. As part of their anniversary celebration, DABO will be hosting their signature event, the 46th Annual State of the Race from April 17-19, 2025. This multi-day celebration not only highlights the resilience and brilliance of the Detroit community but also raises critical funds to support DABO's vital programming.

"The State of the Race is more than just an event - it's a movement," stated Rev. Horace Sheffield III, Executive Director of DABO. "For 46 years, we have brought people together to inform, inspire and ignite change. As we look towards the future, our commitment to community unity, empowerment and opportunity remains stronger than ever."

The State of the Race lineup includes a comedy show on April 17 featuring Don "DC" Curry and Henry Welch at the Bridge Center Library on Grand River Ave. Admission is free and open to the public. On April 19 at 11 a.m., there will be a community forum titled "Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders" at the Bridge Center on Grand River Ave. This year's forum will feature a keynote address by former MSNBC correspondent Joy-Ann Reid who is known for her sharp insights and commentary on pressing national issues. The forum aims to unite thought leaders, activists and community members in exploring actionable strategies for cultivating future leaders. Admission is also free and open to the public.

The highlight of the State of the Race celebration will be the Neosoulsations concert on April 19 at 8 p.m. at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. The concert will feature Grammy Award-winning singer Chrisette Michele, celebrated R&B duo Kindred the Family Soul, and a special guest appearance by comedian Bruce Bruce.
