At the Anderson Periodontal Wellness office, Dr. Lauren Anderson is now certified to administer sedation dentistry to her patients so they can get the dental procedures they need for a healthy, functional, and beautiful smile.
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. - Michimich -- Dr. Lauren Anderson, a board-certified periodontist and the founder of the Anderson Periodontal Wellness office, is now trained and certified to administer sedation dentistry to patients. Dr. Anderson focuses on giving patients two types of sedation dentistry options: oral sedation and IV conscious sedation. Either can be the right fit for patients, depending on the severity of the patients dental anxiety and the treatment(s) the patients need. Both kinds of sedation dentistry options require a high level of patient monitoring from Dr. Anderson to ensure the patient has optimal procedure outcomes.
Oral sedation is a sedation dentistry pill that can be taken orally. Oral sedation is used to make patients drowsy, but it does not put them into a sleep-like state. Instead, patients will feel calm throughout their procedure with oral sedation. This oral sedation pill takes about 60 minutes to evoke a sense of relaxation. Patients can then undergo their procedures comfortably.

IV conscious sedation delivers sedatives intravenously. Individuals who receive IV conscious sedation at the Anderson Periodontal Wellness office become generally unaware of their surroundings, but are not completely sedated to the point of unconsciousness. For example, patients who get treated with IV sedation can respond to communication from Dr. Anderson during their dental procedure. When IV conscious sedation delivery is stopped, patients slowly gain awareness and usually have little to no memory of their treatment.
Dr. Anderson's investment in becoming certified in sedation dentistry shows her ongoing commitment to putting patients' comfort and safety first. Patients can undergo any dental procedure with sedation dentistry, and finally achieve their oral health goals with confidence. Some of the most common treatments where sedation dentistry may be advised by Dr. Anderson are dental implant placement surgeries, tooth extractions, and bone grafting procedures. However, sedation dentistry can be beneficial for other situations, too.
