Performances of holiday music planned in Plymouth, Brighton and Troy
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Live holiday music will be enjoyed by young and old alike in several local communities thanks to Michigan's largest regional symphony orchestra, the Michigan Philharmonic.
Led by longtime conductor Nan Washburn, the Philharmonic will perform in Plymouth, Canton, and Brighton during the month of December, offering a wide array of holiday pops, classical and other celebratory seasonal music that also includes a special night of "Bollywood" music to be performed in Troy.
A longtime community tradition, the Michigan Phil's annual "Holiday Pops with the Phil" concert will include two performances at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9 in Plymouth's historic Penn Theatre. Limited tickets are still available at michiganphil.org.
Then on Saturday, Dec. 11, the Philharmonic will travel to Brighton High School for two holiday pops concerts at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Lastly, a "Bollywood" performance is planned for Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Troy Marriot beginning at 7:30 p.m.

During both of the second concerts in Plymouth and Brighton, Philharmonic oboist Chris Wheeler will be featured performing Georg Philipp Telemann's "Oboe Concerto in E-Flat: Allegro." Other pieces will include "A Festive Fanfare" by Brian Balmages, "German Carol Festival" arranged by James Christensen, "Gabriel's Oboe" by Ennio Morricone, "Faith, A Kwanzaa Celebration" by Sean O'Loughlin and "Sounds of Hanukkah" arranged by Bill Holcombe.
A sing-along of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" will not be a part of the Plymouth show this year but two choirs will join the Philharmonic in Brighton. The Penn Theatre sing-along will be replaced with another special Christmas carol medley.
Tickets for the Brighton shows are available at https://www.brightonperformingarts.com/event-details/holiday-pops-with-the-phil.
The Bollywood performance is being held in conjunction with the Geetmala Foundation of Michigan and the Michigan Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
All of the Philharmonic's concerts are subject to time and date changes as well as health restrictions already in place at the venues listed. To protect everyone involved in their performances the Philharmonic is asking patrons to wear masks during the performances.
