One Well Brewing combines innovative beers, 56 pinball machines, and inclusive dining in unique destination

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Michimich -- One Well Brewing is approaching its 11th anniversary as Kalamazoo's busiest craft brewery, offering a 'choose your own adventure' experience with rotating beers, 56 pinball machines, and a vegetarian-first food program. With 2,100 mug club members and three distinct spaces, the brewery has become a community destination for beer enthusiasts and families alike.

Founded by Chris O'Neal, One Well started as a neighborhood gathering spot inspired by Wednesday night board game sessions. The brewery has expanded to occupy an entire strip mall, featuring three unique spaces: the original 'cozy cabin,' the tree-adorned 'forest,' and the sprawling 'pinball palace' with over 80 arcade machines, duck pin bowling, and dart leagues.

The brewery's beer program focuses on quality and innovation, with new releases three times monthly. Head Brewer Trevor Clemick emphasizes clean, drinkable craft beer with personality. "We're really passionate about making quality, clean, drinkable beers," said Clemick, who has been with One Well for nearly 11 years. "When doing unique stuff, we don't want to overpower the beer. It's a flavored beer opposed to a beer that has a nuance that elevates the drinking experience."

One Well's signature beer, Halapa, showcases this philosophy. The jalapeño-flavored ale uses zero-capsaicin peppers, delivering flavor without heat. Other popular offerings include Ripped Right, a hazy IPA using premium Citra and Mosaic hops, and State of Beans, a butter pecan coffee blonde ale featuring local Kalamazoo coffee roasters.

Director of Marketing Andrew Mclean credits the brewery's success to community engagement and data-driven decision making. "We're the biggest spot, busiest spot in Kalamazoo, but that's not because we're going to take it easy at any point," Mclean explained. "The only way we stay here is if we continue to improve ourselves and get the guest experience every single time."

The brewery's inclusive approach extends to its food program, where every dish is designed as a vegetarian option first, with high-quality plant-based proteins and optional smoked meats. All bartenders complete Cicerone certification within three months of hiring, ensuring knowledgeable service for both beer enthusiasts and newcomers.
