GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Aug. 28, 2024 ~ Meijer, a popular retail chain, has expanded its partnership with Corewell Health by opening a new full-service retail pharmacy at Blodgett Hospital. This marks the second pharmacy inside a Corewell Health hospital, following the successful opening of a similar pharmacy at Butterworth Hospital in 2015.

According to Meijer President and CEO Rick Keyes, who previously worked as a pharmacist for the company, this expansion is in line with the retailer's goal of providing convenience to patients. "Our pharmacies are designed to be a one-stop health and wellness destination, and expanding our partnership with Corewell Health is another way we can ensure we are where patients need us most," said Keyes. He also added that this new pharmacy will not only benefit patients and hospital employees but also the residents of East Grand Rapids.

The new 3,100-square-foot pharmacy offers a wide range of over-the-counter products commonly requested by hospital staff, patients, and their families. It also provides comprehensive services such as immunizations. Additionally, the pharmacy offers Meds to Beds discharge coordination, which ensures that necessary medications are delivered to patients' beds before they leave the hospital. This service aims to make the transition from hospital to home smoother for patients.

These services cater to patients living with chronic conditions and provide specialty medications along with additional care. The pharmacy also offers compounding services that tailor prescriptions according to individual patient needs.

Dr. Alejandro Quiroga, President of Corewell Health in West Michigan, expressed his excitement about this new partnership with Meijer. "This new pharmacy is an integral part of the hospital, and its convenience will enhance the experience for our patients, visitors and employees," said Dr. Quiroga. He also praised Meijer for being an exceptional community partner and appreciated their expertise in retail and pharmacy operations.

The Meijer pharmacy at Blodgett Hospital is owned and operated by the company and was part of a major remodel project at the hospital. The project also included improvements to the main entrance and patient drop-off area. The pharmacy is conveniently located on the main floor next to the discharge lounge, making it easily accessible for patients being discharged from the hospital.
