Improperly released prisoner back in custody
The manhunt for Talleon Stephon Brazil ended Satuday after being apprehended by authorities in Detroit.
Brazil was improperly released by Ohio authorities on Jan. 21 after facing criminal charges in court there. The search began Jan. 30 when Ohio authorities informed the Michigan Department of Corrections he had been released by mistake.
He was taken into custody by the MDOC's Absconder Recovery Unit at approximately 4 p.m. after authorities found him at a home in Detroit following several days of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Brazil is being lodged at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson.
The department's Absconder Recovery Unit worked in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service task force, which included Michigan State Police, Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. The facility staff at Saginaw Correctional Facility and the MDOC's intelligence unit also provided special assistance.

"We are glad this case came to a quick resolution," said Michigan Department of Corrections Director Heidi Washington. "And we appreciate all the assistance from our law enforcement partners who worked so cohesively to make this happen."
Brazil was serving time at the Saginaw Correctional Facility when on Jan. 14, he was picked up by the Scioto County Sheriff's Office in Portsmouth, Ohio to face a series of drug-related charges.
Rather than keep him in custody until the criminal case had concluded, the authorities in Ohio released Brazil on bond improperly on Jan. 21. He was picked up by members of his family who brought him back to the Detroit area.
Brazil was sentenced to 15-40 years in prison on Feb. 26, 2010 in Wayne County for unarmed robbery, carjacking, felony firearms, possession of weapons by a felon, and delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance.
He may face additional charges related to his time eluding capture, and still faces drug charges in Ohio.
