"Sizzling" outdoor series crisscrosses metro Detroit and "Thumb" region
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Once again, music lovers looking for great outdoor classical and pops music can go on the road as the Michigan Philharmonic undertakes its annual summer tour. The state's top regional orchestra will be performing in Plymouth, Milford, downtown Detroit, Grosse Pointe and Port Austin.
Most of the concerts are free, and each one will be on an outdoor stage as the Philharmonic, led by longtime Music Director and Conductor Nan Washburn, and offer up a fun mix of movie music, patriotic themes and much more throughout July and August.
Here's a list of the scheduled performances:
Saturday, July 1 – Kellogg Park, in beautiful downtown Plymouth, plays host to the annual "An American Salute" patriotic concert with the Philharmonic. This free event begins at 7 p.m. and includes a special guest conductor. The concert will be presented through the support of the Plymouth Community Arts Council and the Wilcox Foundation.

Wednesday, July 12 – The Philharmonic travels to downtown Detroit and the Campus Martius Park along Woodward Avenue for another "Superheroes & Beyond" concert. This event is a celebration of movie themes with numbers from "Superman" to "The Incredibles," as well as "The Sound of Music." The free concert begins at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 15 – The Philharmonic next travels to Kensington Metropark for its annual performance at Maple Beach. This concert features "Movie Icons & Superheroes." The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. There is a Metropark fee to enter.
Saturday, Aug. 19 – The Philharmonic returns to Michigan's thumb area for "Movie Icons & Superheroes." The free 4 p.m. concert will be performed at Gallup Park in Port Austin located along Lake Huron.
Saturday, Aug. 25– A special Michigan Philharmonic concert is planned for the historic Eleanor and Edsel Ford Estate, featuring another movie-themed performance. There is an event cost for the 6:30 p.m. concert; visit www.fordhouse.org for details.

Also of note, the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) hosts its free summer Pops Concert at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6 in Plymouth's Kellogg Park.
