Michigan Philharmonic continues 79th season in Plymouth's St. John's Chapel
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Michigan's renowned regional orchestra, the Michigan Philharmonic, begins the second half of its historic 79th season with a special Sunday afternoon performance on Jan. 19 in the St. John's Chapel in Plymouth.
Led by Conductor and Music Director Nan Washburn, now in her 26th season, the Philharmonic will offer another in its series of "Miniature Masterpieces," this time focused on "Viva Viola" and featuring a local viola performer and composer.
The 2 p.m. performance features Stuart Ross Carlson, a native of Dexter, Michigan who has received numerous accolades, with his compositions and arrangements having been performed by ensembles across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. His piece with the Philharmonic will be "Viola Concerto in D Major" (2022).

Also being performed during the Phil concert will be a piece by German Romantic-era woman composer Emilie Mayer, "Scherzo from Symphony No. 2," as arranged by Washburn. Other pieces planned include "Symphony No.1 in G Major, Op.11" (c. 1778) by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges, "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" (1894/1918) by Claude Debussy and "Overture on Hebrew Themes, Op. 34" (1919) by Sergei Prokofiev.
