ST JOHNS, Mich. - Michimich -- Wedding season is here!
Have you been receiving invitations?
The best part of a wedding is seeing and feeling the love the couple shares. You can see it in the vows, speeches, and toasts. When you have hearing loss, you might miss out on the love and emotions that make a wedding so special!
How can you enjoy weddings to the fullest?
Ask for a Close Seat – Before the ceremony, arrange to sit at the front of the venue so you can hear and read lips if necessary. During the reception, ask for a table far from the DJ or band. At the table, position yourself so those you want to speak to most are at your sides rather than across the table. Not only is it harder to hear across the table, but high centerpieces can make reading lips difficult.
Wear Your Hearing Aids – If you wear hearing aids, make sure to wear them for the ceremony. You may need to adjust them to hear the vows but keep the background noise to a minimum. Throughout the day, take small breaks to turn your hearing aids off and relax.
Integrate A Loop System, FM or DM System to the Venue – To eliminate background noise, you can ask the ceremony venue to integrate a loop system, FM, or FM system. These systems work by transmitting the sound from one or more microphones directly into your hearing aid or a personal receiver with headphones. Make sure the microphone and loop system work in advance!

Request Written Materials – To be extra sure you don't miss out, ask the couple to share their vows in written form on the wedding program if possible. If you want to dance during the reception, see if there is a set playlist that can be shared!
Remember, asking for these accommodations is not bothersome. You need these accommodations to be able to enjoy the wedding as much as everyone else. You deserve to experience this lifechanging event to the fullest!
