YPSILANTI, Mich., Aug. 19, 2024 ~ Eastern Michigan University is gearing up for an unforgettable halftime show during their upcoming football game against Miami University on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Rynearson Stadium. The university has announced that the world-renowned vocal group, The Temptations, will be performing alongside the EMU Marching Band.
This special event will not only feature the iconic group, but also EMU alum and Detroit native Jawan M. Jackson, who joined The Temptations in 2022. Jackson will be returning to his alma mater for this highly anticipated performance.
"We are thrilled to have The Temptations collaborate with our students in the 130th Anniversary Season of the EMU Marching Band," said J. Nick Smith, Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at Eastern Michigan University. "This collaboration embodies our vision of providing student-centered, high-quality academic programs with significant community impact."
The collaboration between The Temptations and the EMU Marching Band is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the band students and will have a ripple effect throughout the Ypsilanti community and their "sister city," Detroit. This city holds a special significance as it was where The Temptations and many other iconic Black artists began their careers before reshaping the music industry.
