Morocco Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy Supports Z3EN's Venture
DETROIT - Michimich -- Z3EN,LLC, an emerging startup battery technology, has announced plans to construct its first gigafactory in Morocco. The Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment, and Digital Economy is supporting the project, providing manufacturing benefits within the country's automotive manufacturing base, which is home to various European automakers.
Construction of the gigafactory is scheduled to begin by the end of the third quarter of 2023, with completion expected by the beginning of the third quarter of 2024. The facility, strategically located in one of Morocco's key automotive manufacturing centers, will have a production capacity ranging from 5 GWh to 8 GWh.
Z3EN's gigafactory initiative is driven by its proprietary organic polyglycolic acid (PGA) battery technology. This innovative alternative aims to challenge the dominance of lithium-ion batteries in the electric vehicle market by offering a safer and more environmentally friendly solution. The extensive use of lithium-ion batteries presents various challenges, including resource extraction, disposal issues, and potential human rights abuses in the supply chain.

The gigafactory project holds promising economic potential, with estimated annual gross revenues ranging from $144M to $274M. Z3EN also stands to benefit from corporate sustainability tax credits and battery incentives. The company views this venture as having low investment risk due to the increasing demand for alternative battery technologies.
J. Lightning Rayos, Chairman and Executive Director of Z3EN, expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the advantages of their PGA battery technology. He stated, "Our PGA Acetate battery technology is non-combustible with a zero explosion rate and offers four times the output capacity compared to lithium batteries." Rayos also emphasized the opportunity to become part of the EV battery and automotive supply chain that supports many European automotive brands.
Dr. Abdel, Ph.D., an environmental engineer and Chief Operations Officer and President of MENA and Europe at Z3EN, discussed the benefits of their battery technology. He stated, "We will provide European automakers with an optional choice of a 100% biodegradable, eco-friendly battery electrolyte material, with a 40-50% lower production cost than lithium-ion, offering tremendous savings in overall EV battery production."
