KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Michimich -- A Kalamazoo MI business owner is helping to transform a social services organization with use of Reformed theology. Anton Williams, an oil and gas heir and business owner in Kalamazoo MI, has used tenets from the Christian Reformed tradition in order to change GMNF Global Mission Society's work around the world. GMNF Global Missions engages in social services work such as elderly care, counseling, food services, prison, orphan, homeless, medical and educational care. The organization is made up of people from a variety of Christian traditions such as Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, Roman Catholics, Orthodox and many other denominations including those of the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition. The focus on the confessional expression of reformed theology, even among its members of other traditions by design on GMNF Missions/Ministry, has served as a rallying point to greater levels of depth in understanding the role of providence in assisting people.

As a member of a Christian Reformed Church, Anton Williams has sought to incorporate use of the 3 Forms of Unity (Heidelberg, Dort and Belgic) and CRCNA position statements, in order to guide and inform practice within the GMNF Missions service areas. A large focus of his work has been consistency with the confessions. As some members of GMNF had questions with biblical criticism; there was renewed effort to thoroughly examine the scriptural texts as well as objective data. Scriptural witness is important to the social service witness. As critical scholars were claiming, for example that Moses didn't write the Pentateuch (first five books of the Bible) Anton showed from another book, one of Joshua that when the latter wrote about 1350 BCE a person named Rahab was still living (Joshua 6:25) and in the preceding chapters the Pentateuch as a whole and in part was quoted, referenced and alluded to as being from Moses. Likewise Anton showed that while some skeptics have claimed Daniel didn't write his book in the 6th century BCE that another book written in the same century (the book of Ezekiel) directly quotes from Daniel's book twice and makes numerous references to it. For example, Anton shows that Ezekiel 28:3 is a direct quote of Daniel 4:9 and the passage of a prideful king being brought down by divine activity in Daniel 4 is applied by Ezekiel in his passage. These scriptural witnesses have served as a rallying point for additional services by GMNF missions on projects as they align with the trustworthiness of the biblical text.
