DETROIT - Michimich -- Media leaders, innovators, and advocates will converge in the 'Motor City' from June 6th to June 9th, 2024 at The Beacon, for the highly anticipated 3rd annual Black Owned Media Weekend hosted by the Black Owned Media Equity and Sustainability Institute (BOMESI). Presented by GM and supported by an array of industry leaders, this year's event promises enriching panels, captivating discussions, and opportunities for networking and collaboration. Attendees are guaranteed an immersive experience celebrating the vibrant landscape of Black-owned media and its impact on culture, innovation, and community.

The weekend kicks off on Thursday, June 6th, with invite only programming dedicated to BOMESI Accelerator cohort 3 and Friday, June 7th, sees the commencement of the main program with insightful panels and keynote presentations. Notable speakers include Founder/CEO of Expectant Media Michele Thornton Ghee, President, Cultural Quotient at Publicis Groupe Lisa Torres, Co-Founder AllHipHop Media Grouchy Greg Watkins, Founder of ChatBlackGPT Erin Reddick and more. Leading a discussion on owning your narrative when it comes to content creation will be Vivica A. Fox, Jussie Smollet and Jabari Redd, moderated by Dustin Ross. The conversation will be centered on the new film from Smollet entitled, The Lost Holliday produced by and starring Fox and Redd whose lead character is from Detroit, MI and deals with themes of family, LGBTQI+ relationships and grief. Other panels will explore topics such as building relationships with agency stakeholders and the impact of AI on diverse-owned media.

Debra Lee, founder of Leading Women Defined, and former CEO of BET, headlines as the keynote speaker, alongside panels discussing equity in adtech with Len Burnett, Co-founder, CRO, HERO Media, and proving the business case for investing in diverse-owned media.
Sponsors for the event include GM, Nativo, Discover, Danone, Mediavine, MyCode, Burst, SHEMedia, and KARGO.
This year's theme is anchored on creating a sustainable future for Black-owned media.
