DETROIT, July 29, 2025 ~ In a major victory for Teamsters Local 2024, the Nurses for Nurses Bargaining Committee has secured significant economic improvements and guarantees for nurses at Corewell Health East. The committee unanimously approved a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that will provide Teamsters nurses with retroactive economic benefits and ensure that they receive any future improvements given to nonunion employees.
Lead negotiator and Trustee of Local 2024, Mike Smith, stated, "We made it clear to Corewell from the very beginning that fair treatment of Teamsters nurses was our top priority. While we are proud to have reached this agreement and secured what is rightfully owed to our nurses, this is just the beginning of a longer fight."
The MOA includes several retroactive economic improvements, such as a March 2025 general wage increase, base pay market review and tier adjustments for advanced practice providers, a $250 bonus, increases in shift differential and shift premium pay, and matching contributions to workers' 403(b) retirement plan.

This approval comes after members of Local 2024 joined forces with Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, state and local officials, and union allies in a rally last month to demand an end to Corewell Health East's attacks on unionized workers.
Sarah Johnson, a member of the negotiating committee, expressed her satisfaction with the MOA stating, "Corewell should never have denied us our fair share simply because we formed a union. This MOA solidifies the fact that when Teamsters fight, Teamsters win – and that's exactly the mentality we are taking into the rest of negotiations. We are eager to return to the bargaining table and secure the foundation of our first union contract."
The bargaining committee continues to make progress on important contract language and is currently working on an economic package for 2026 and beyond. Negotiations are set to resume on August 6-8 in Detroit.
