GSSEM Tough Enough Breakfast discussion tackles the new normal job market

DETROIT - Michimich -- Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan's (GSSEM) annual Tough Enough to be a Girl Scout breakfast will honor a group of professionals who are committed to developing forward thinking solutions to complex issues, taking on hard challenges within their communities and working together to forge a brighter future.

Each of these honorees, through their trailblazing careers and commitment to service, demonstrate every day that they are tough enough to be a Girl Scout.

2026 Tough Enough awardees:

• Stacy Fox, Co-Founder & Principal of the Roxbury Group
• Tiffany Gunter, CEO & General Manager of the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART)
• Mary Kramer, Co-Founder, Detroit Homecoming & Retired Publisher/Editor of Crain's Detroit Business
• Kate Levin Markel, President of the McGregor Fund

Hosted at Elevate at One Campus Martius, Thursday, September 10, the breakfast will include a panel discussion with the honorees, moderated by Lauren Sanders, founder of The Elevate Project. The discussion will center on the changing world of work and the role the older generation of workers needs to play in preparing a workforce of prepared and invested leaders.

Today, young people, women in particular, are facing unprecedented challenges as they enter the workforce after high school or college:

• In the first quarter of 2026 the unemployment rate of recent college graduates was about 5.7%, up two points over the last ten years
• Employers expect 39% of workers' existing skill sets to change or become outdated by 2030
• AI and some hybrid work schedules automate many routine workplace tasks which young workers typically learn durable skills like critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and leadership.
