ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michimich -- Are you looking for a new mirror in your home?
Do you know your options?
Custom mirrors can be a great addition to your home. Mirrors are commonly used in bathrooms, but can also be used to set off other spaces in your home such as a fitness area or behind a bar. Besides just the functional uses in the bathroom, mirrors are a great way to make spaces appear larger.
Mirrors are available in common shapes and sizes that can be hung in your home almost like a picture. Rectangular, square, and oval shapes are the most common, but our custom mirrors can be made to fit almost any unique space in your home. For example, an entire wall can be covered with a mirror.
When considering a custom mirror project, there are several factors to consider. Mirrors can come in a variety of the thickness from 1/8" to ¼". ¼" thick mirrors are the most common mirrors used in homes. The edges of the mirror can be finished in a variety of ways. The most basic finish is a ground edge. A ground edge involves sanding the cut edges of the mirror to produce a rough, non-reflective finish along the edges of the mirror. Next, there is a flat polish edge that can be placed on the mirror. A flat polish provides a smooth, finished surface on all the edges and a slight bevel. Finally, a larger beveled edge can be placed around the entire perimeter. The bevel can range in size from ½" to 1-1/2" or more. This can be a very attractive way to set off the mirror with a more finished appearance albeit at a higher cost.

There are a couple of options for custom mirrors that can add a unique and special look. Mirrors are available with Low Iron glass. Regular glass, including the glass used in mirrors, has a greenish tint to it. Low Iron glass removes that greenish tint and provides a reflection that shows off more true colors. Antique mirror glass is also available that attempts to replicate the aged and distressed look of vintage mirror glass. This glass can be used as a replacement for a mirror in antique furniture or to add unique character in a room.
