SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Michimich -- The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) bestows an annual Teacher of the Year Award to an instructor who demonstrates outstanding abilities and commitment to high standards for massage therapy education.
This year, Irene's Myomassology Institute, in Southfield, Michigan, is happy to announce the AMTA chose Jeanette Roach as the 2021 recipient! This award is for teachers who go above and beyond to bring out the best in students and provide them with what they need to succeed in a career as a massage therapist.
Jeanette is lead instructor at Irene's, where she has been teaching for over 20 years. Committed to providing students with the best education she can, Jeanette offers one-on-one tutoring for those who are struggling. She spends her free time creating inventive ways to engage students with course material.
"One of her best and most humorous ways of teaching is when she sings," says fellow instructor, Rob Kelly. "Without hesitating to be silly in front of the entire class, she takes a popular song and changes the lyrics to teach about massage or anatomy."
"We could not be prouder of Jeanette!" says Irene's Executive Director, Kathy Skubik. "She has so much talent and compassion driving her to help students do their best."

Jeanette is thrilled and humbled to be honored amongst the profession's national leaders.
"To be recognized for my work is amazing, but the most rewarding thing for me is seeing my students flourish in their program. They literally transform during their year at school."
Students have nothing but good things to say about this spectacular woman, but one sentiment echoed throughout their responses: "Jeanette is an amazing person. I feel so blessed to have her as an instructor." Having impacted so many in this way, it is no surprise that this beloved educator was selected as the AMTA's Teacher of the Year.
