~ On Monday, April 17, Sterling Heights Mayor and City Council, City Manager Mark Vanderpool, Sterling Heights Sustainability Commissioners, Sterling Heights Beautification Commissioners, regional/state/federal elected officials, and community leaders and esteemed guests gathered outside the Sterling Heights Senior Center to plant a tree in recognition of the upcoming Arbor and Earth Days. The event was followed by a media announcement to unveil Think Sterling Green, a new umbrella brand for multiple sustainability initiatives in Sterling Heights.

The tree planting was accompanied by renewable energy items such as a rain barrel, solar panel and heat pump to provide a great photo and/or video opportunity. The event was held to showcase the vital work Sterling Heights is doing toward creating a sustainable and resilient community and preserving the environment for future generations. Two brand new projects for residents were also announced: an exciting grant program for residential clean energy improvement projects and a free rain barrel program.
