ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michimich -- We get lots of calls from customers and frustrated business owners alike who are having trouble with their printers. Printer problems always seem to appear at the worst time!
If you've got an important presentation or meeting on the schedule, you don't have time to wait for a printer repair technician to come out.
Here are a few of the most common print issues we hear about and how you can fix them:
1. "My printer won't print!" – Before you panic, check to see if your printer is communicating properly with your computer. If it isn't, it may be that you need to update drivers or firmware. A pending Windows update might be the cause too, so install any updates, shut down your computer, and try again. Instructions for driver updates can be found on the manufacturer's website (HP.com, Brother.com, Epson.com, etc.).
2. "My printer says I have a paper jam, but there's nothing in the tray." Often, this can be fixed with some canned air and blowing the machine out. There may also be a piece of paper inside the printer that ripped off and is stuck – you might need a flashlight to see it. Take the paper out of the tray, open all flaps, and look inside.

3. "When do I replace the cartridges?" Printers usually warn you if ink is running low. If you print only occasionally, toner might last a couple of weeks even after you get a low ink notification. It's good practice to order cartridges as soon as the message appears. We can help you keep up to date on ink and toner when you become a MCS customer!
MCS Can Help with Tricky Printer Problems!
While some repairs can be done DIY-style, others will require parts and a technician. When labor costs are involved, the bill for repair can quickly skyrocket. When deciding whether to repair or replace your printer, consider the total costs of replacement parts and labor. Additionally, many parts for home inkjet printers are just not available, making the process moot.
