76th season continues through May with finale at Schoolcraft College
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Michigan's premier regional orchestra is beginning a spring fundraising campaign that runs throughout April and May to garner ongoing support for concerts and programs throughout the rest of this year's historic season.
Dubbed the "April Showers, Brings May Dollars" matching fundraiser, the Philharmonic is seeking to raise at least $20,000 to help match the generous donations of a major donor made earlier this year.
According to Beth Stewart, executive director of the Philharmonic, the campaign is a reminder that all size donations can make a difference in supporting a cultural jewel like the symphony, based for its entire history in Plymouth but with concerts and programs throughout southeast Michigan.
The Michigan Phil will wrap up its 76th season on May 21 with "The Great American Songbook" at Schoolcraft College's VisTaTech Center. This evening features the smooth sounds of versatile vocalist Suede performing some great American standards from Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, Julie Styne and Stephen Sondheim.
