Performance features nearly 100 youth musicians in five groups
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Nearly 100 musicians from the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) will take to the stage in PARC's historic Jack Wilcox Theatre offering a special "Winter Concert" full of classical, pop and holiday music.
Led by Hektor Qyteti since 2017, and supported by Dennis Carter conducting flutes and winds, the MPYO provides a unique, enriching and exciting musical experience for young musicians throughout Southeast Michigan. The full program for students ages 8-18 includes two string ensembles, a flute choir, a wind ensemble and a full youth symphony. Students in this program meet weekly to rehearse and give three concert performances in addition to performing with the main Philharmonic several times a season.
The MPYO concert in Plymouth begins on Tuesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. and features five youth ensembles: Strings, made up of elementary school string players; Sinfonia, a middle school strings group; Flute Choir; Wind Ensemble; and the Youth Symphony, a full orchestra of mainly high school musicians.
