ROCHESTER, Mich. - Michimich -- New Day Foundation for Families, a nonprofit dedicated to providing financial assistance and emotional support to families facing cancer, today announced the addition of Geralyn Roobol, LMSW, BS, RN, CMAC, Director of Cancer Services at Corewell Health – West Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion in Grand Rapids to the board of directors. The announcement was made by New Day Co-founder and President Gina Kell Spehn.
"I see the effects of financial toxicity on patients and families every day," Roobol said. "Having a resource like New Day to alleviate those worries – 'am I going to lose my house, what if I lose my job, what will happen to my children' - is invaluable. Patients are more fearful of the financial impact of their cancer than they are about surviving the disease."

She has also successfully obtained funding to support the start-up of supportive services for oncology patients. Programs which she has include: art, music and massage therapy, yoga, oncology social work, financial navigation and a number of support groups.
New Day's growing presence in West Michigan has resulted in a $750,000 investment in programs that directly impact the lives of cancer patients, caregivers, spouses and children in the region. The nonprofit looks forward to continued growth and new partnerships in West Michigan and intends to hire a program director in the Grand Rapids region this year. Having donated office space in the Medical Mile, New Day will strengthen its hospital partnerships and further engage with residents and corporations to create awareness and generate revenue.
