New "Home Legacy Program" Helps Washtenaw County Homeowners Pass on Generational Wealth

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michimich -- A new initiative aimed at helping homeowners pass on their property and wealth to future generations is gaining momentum in Washtenaw County. Spearheaded by estate planning attorney (https://www.psedlaw.com/practice/areas/estate-p...) Sarah Meinhart, the Home Legacy Program is designed to make estate planning more accessible and meaningful for local families. The program focuses on using Lady Bird Deeds—a legal tool that allows homeowners to transfer their property upon death without going through probate.

The program was created through a partnership between community-minded attorneys and organizations committed to assisting families pass on generational wealth through home ownership. Attorney Amy Krieg joined forces with the Washtenaw County Bar Association (WCBA), to establish a referral list of attorneys for a pilot program providing Lady Bird Deeds to Habitat for Humanity homeowners.

By offering free or low-cost estate planning assistance, the program empowers families to protect the wealth they've built and preserve the legacy of their homes.
