WARREN, Mich., Nov. 7, 2024 ~ In a groundbreaking move, workers at the PharmaCann cannabis facility in Warren, Michigan have voted to join Teamsters Local 337. This decision marks a significant step in the growing trend of unionization within the cannabis industry, with workers across the country joining forces with the Teamsters.

According to Todd Lince, President of Local 337, "The cannabis industry is at the forefront of the modern labor movement, and we are incredibly excited to welcome our newest members into the Teamsters." Lince believes that this vote is just the first step towards ensuring that workers in this industry receive fair compensation and benefits. He also hopes that by working together, they can turn these jobs into long-term careers.

The 59 new members of Local 337 are responsible for various tasks such as logistics, distribution, and manufacturing of PharmaCann products. While the Teamsters already represent retail workers at PharmaCann's Illinois location, this is their first production facility to join the union. Additionally, it is also the first cannabis operation in Detroit's metro area to affiliate with the Teamsters.

Jesse Case, Director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division, sees this as a significant achievement for their organization. "As we continue to make progress at dispensaries and cannabis processing facilities nationwide," he said, "we are setting an example for everyone in this industry." Case also mentioned that PharmaCann members in Illinois receive regular pay increases and protection against unjust termination. These are just some of the benefits that they will be fighting for when negotiating with cannabis Teamsters in Warren.

One of these new members is Amberlin Stark, a cultivation technician who believes that joining forces with the Teamsters will bring about much-needed change. "While prices have gone up by nearly 50 percent in 15 years," she stated, "our incomes have barely moved." Stark believes that it is unfair for corporations' compensation to increase significantly while wages remain stagnant. As a Teamster, she is determined to correct this injustice.

Teamsters Local 337 represents thousands of workers in Detroit and Port Huron, Michigan, across various industries. For more information on their organization, visit teamsterslocal337.com. For media inquiries, please contact Matt McQuaid at (202) 624-6877.
