Spooky Halloween celebration returns to Northville's Marquis Theatre

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Halloween celebrations in the Plymouth/Northville communities wouldn't be complete without a little frightening music from the Michigan Philharmonic.

Conjuring up a night of seasonal fun, the Phil is preparing for a spooky Saturday performance (Oct. 18) that will begin at 7:30 p.m. The annual "Phil Phright Night" includes a rich blend of music and will be performed on the stage at Northville's Marquis Theatre.

Led by Music Director and Conductor Nan Washburn, the Philharmonic will present music that is both haunting and quirky to help celebrate "All Hallows' Eve." And who knows what lurks backstage, only to be revealed when Washburn makes her surprising costumed entrance.

A litany of holiday music is planned for the evening, including:
  • Toccata in D Minor, BWV 565 (keyboard solo) by J.S. Bach
  • Overture to Die Fledermaus ("The Bat") by Johann Strauss II
  • The Phantom Regiment by Leroy Anderson
  • Pirate Dance by Leroy Anderson
  • Music for a Darkened Theater: The Music of Danny Elfman
  • How to Train Your Dragon by John Powell
  • Beauty and the Beast Overture by Alan Menken
  • Bella's Lullaby from the movie Twilight by Carter Burwell
  • Highlights from Wicked by Stephen Schwartz
  • Batman: The Dark Knight by Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard
  • Thriller by Michael Jackson

As always, concert goers can expect a few other tricks and treats that night as well. Tickets are available online at the Philharmonic's website: michiganphil.org.
