(LANSING, MICH) Michigan is set to become more influential in standard-setting and regulatory support for state insurance regulators with Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox's recent appointment to several key positions with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
"Under Governor Whitmer's leadership, Michigan has been a strong leader on insurance issues, which are governed primarily at the state level. These appointments will enable me to continue to advocate for Michiganders on insurance issues while working to strengthen the state-based insurance regulatory system," said Director Fox. "In these committees, we will be taking on vitally important tasks including examining health care access and affordability, working to ensure that state regulators can effectively work together with federal and international leaders on insurance issues, and identifying ways to make insurance coverage more equitable for everyone."

Director Fox's key appointments and work groups include:
- The Health Insurance and Managed Care (B) Committee, which considers issues relating to all aspects of health insurance. It is charged with numerous important tasks and serves as the NAIC's health insurance liaison to the U.S. Congress, the White House, and federal agencies;
- The Special Committee on Race and Insurance, which is charged with examining and determining which practices or barriers exist in the insurance sector that potentially disadvantage people of color and/or historically underrepresented groups and will make recommendations on action steps to remove these barriers;
- The International Insurance Relations Committee, which coordinates NAIC participation in international discussions on the development of insurance regulatory and supervisory standards and promotes international cooperation; and
- The Government Relations Leadership Council, whose mission is to devise strategies for NAIC action and promote the participation of all NAIC members in the NAIC's government relations initiatives. With Director Fox's appointment to this council, Michigan will serve as one of 15 voting members making recommendations to the NAIC Executive Committee on federal legislative issues and regulatory developments.
