LANSING, MI--John. E. Johnson, Jr., Executive Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, has issued the following statement congratulating Dr. Robert L. Green, Ph.D., Dean and Professor Emeritus of Michigan State University, on the renaming of East Lansing's Pinecrest Elementary School in his honor.
"Dr. Green is a home grown civil rights icon. He is a man who worked alongside America's greatest civil rights leaders, while waging his own courageous battle to buy the home of his choosing. Dr. Green will be remembered far beyond the boundaries of East Lansing; his fight to buy a home in that city was the first successful legal challenge against redlining anywhere in the country. It is fitting that a man who has dedicated his life to educating educators is now honored by the community where he lived and worked with a school renamed in his honor. Congratulations, Dr. Green."
