Three strangers meet at Yosemite's famed Mist Trail: a disillusioned investment banker, a Chinese dissident artist escaping persecution, and a middle-aged woman trying to rebuild her life after divorce. By day's end, two of them will be dead.
LIVONIA, Mich. - Michimich -- Containing elements of satire, neo-noir, and geopolitical thriller, Range of Light by Scott Neuffer is, at heart, a literary work of fiction capturing the complex, unraveling lives of three strangers in one of America's most iconic natural settings. Beneath the thundering falls of Yosemite, these disparate lives crash together in a dramatic climax, revealing both the worst and the best aspects of the human heart.
"The title comes from the name John Muir gave to the mountains he loved," says author Scott Neuffer. "Having grown up in the Sierra, I feel the same way. Though dark at times, this book is a testament to the awe and power of the Sierra Nevada and captures in fiction both the inner and outer lives of people."

Each hiker is seeking something as they explore the Mist Trail, but by the end of the climb, two of them will be dead. Their journeys of living in an increasingly material world, escaping censorship, and their path to forgiveness will linger long after the last page is read.
