~ The City of Sterling Heights is inviting mural artists to submit designs for a large outdoor mural to be installed at a highly visible location in the city this summer. The chosen artist will be commissioned by the City and their work will be promoted through print and social media, as well as highlighted in numerous community arts and culture events.
The City hopes that the artist or artists will take into consideration the inclusivity aspect of its Visioning 2030 vision statement and guiding principles when proposing their design. This includes safe, well maintained and desirable neighborhoods enhanced by great schools, plentiful leisure and recreation opportunities featuring fully utilized parks, abundant pathways for biking and walking, focal points that are both public and private to serve as destinations for residents and visitors, well maintained and aesthetically pleasing roads and green spaces, successful, vibrant and attractive commercial centers with unique offerings, destination for high-tech and emerging industries and entrepreneurs.
Submissions must include a one-page narrative description of the concept for the work including its scale, types of material and colors; a visual representation of the mural in any of the following formats: colored graphic or artist illustration depicting the project; a model of the proposal; digital image/rendering; details on how the artist plans to handle timeline required to complete mural for late summer/early fall 2023 installation; current resume including any past experience with public art; up to three references including name, project type, contact number and email addresses.
