~ On Tuesday, March 21, Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor and members of the City Council, City Manager Mark Vanderpool, Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Langlois and other guests will gather to celebrate the opening of the Bocce Barn. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 6 pm behind the Sterling Heights Senior Center at 40200 Utica Road.

The Bocce Barn is a three-season indoor bocce ball facility and is the final capstone project for the Recreating Recreation initiative. This initiative began in 2016 with support from residents to improve existing parks and add a number of recreation amenities. As a result, the City has renovated many existing facilities, playgrounds, athletic courts, and trails, as well as replaced equipment including benches, picnic tables, and trash cans.

New amenities have been welcomed to the City such as a 98,000-square-foot Community Center, an outdoor Splash Pad, a summer farmers market pavilion that transforms into an ice rink in winter, universally accessible paddle docks for canoers and kayakers of all abilities, a dog park, a skate park for all ages, a mini-turf soccer field and a new nature trail running from Delia Park to Corewell Health's Beaumont Hospital.
