~ Sterling Heights, MI - As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, the city of Sterling Heights is gearing up for its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on May 25. This cherished and patriotic tradition, now in its 47th year, will pay tribute to America's rich history and the heroes who served it.
The day's events will kick off at 9 a.m. with the Memorial Day Ceremony at the courtyard between City Hall and the Sterling Heights Police Department. The ceremony will feature remarks from Grand Marshal Manny Gonzales, Mayor Michael C. Taylor, elected officials, and Art Commission Chairperson Barbara Chudzik. The Motor City Blend Chorus will also perform musical selections throughout the program, adding to the solemn and patriotic atmosphere.
This year's ceremony will include several unforgettable highlights, including a flyover of authentic Tuskegee Airmen World War II aircraft at approximately 9:30 a.m. Attendees can also look forward to patriotic performances by the 1st Michigan Colonial Fife & Drum Corps. In honor of America's milestone birthday, a local quilting group will present "Quilts of Valor" to three local veterans in a moving tribute to their service and sacrifice.
