Sterling Heights Offers Cooling Centers for Predicted Extreme Temperatures

~ Sterling Heights, MI- As the city braces for a week of extreme heat, the local government is taking measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. The city has announced that the Sterling Heights Community Center, Sterling Heights Senior Center, and Sterling Heights Public Library will serve as cooling centers during this period.

According to the city's press release, the Community Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Senior Center will also be available for use from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday.

In addition, the library will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

For those in need of immediate relief from the heat, the lobby of the Sterling Heights Police Department will be open round-the-clock throughout the year.

In case of emergency power outages during this time, additional hours may be added for the Community Center as needed. Residents are advised to stay updated by following Sterling Heights' social media accounts or signing up for emergency alerts at sterlingheights.gov/getconnected.

The city urges all residents to take necessary precautions during this heatwave and utilize these cooling centers if needed.
