L2 Aviation Receives FAA STC and PMA for Klatt Works SAVED™ Smoke Vision System Installation on Gulfstream G550 aircraft
ERLANGER, Ky. & INDIANAPOLIS & AUSTIN, Texas - Michimich -- L2 Aviation, a global leader in avionics integration, certification, and aircraft modification services, today announced that it has been awarded a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of the SAVED™ (Smoke Assured Vision Enhanced Device) system on the Gulfstream G550 aircraft. L2 Aviation led the certification effort, including engineering, integration, and test activities required to achieve FAA approval.
Developed by Klatt Works, the SAVED system is a mask-integrated vision solution designed to support pilots during cockpit smoke emergencies. Dense smoke conditions can rapidly degrade visibility and increase pilot workload during critical phases of flight. The SAVED system provides real-time nose camera video and head-up display (HUD) data directly within the oxygen mask, allowing pilots to maintain situational awareness and safely control the aircraft.

As a follow-on to the STC approval, L2 Aviation has also been awarded FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for the manufacturing of installation kits supporting the SAVED system on G550 aircraft. This approval enables L2 Aviation to produce and supply certified installation kits, supporting operators with a complete, compliant solution for integrating the system into their aircraft.
"When it comes to aircraft safety, there should be no compromise, and the SAVED System should be the standard in every aircraft of the future. We executed this program with a clear focus on delivering a certified, integrated solution that enhances pilot capability in one of the most challenging emergency scenarios," said Tony Bailey, President and Chief Operating Officer of L2 Aviation. "Achieving both STC and PMA approvals positions us to support operators with a complete solution that meets the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance."
SAVED has previously received FAA certification on the Boeing 777F and is currently in commercial service with FedEx. The Gulfstream G550 certification marks the first business jet application of this technology and expands its operational use into the business aviation sector. Certification efforts for the Gulfstream G650 are currently underway, with anticipated FAA approval targeted for July 2026.
