A much-anticipated event celebrating the city of Sterling Heights' many cultures will be held Friday, February 24th.
The city of Sterling Heights and its Ethnic Community Committee will hold its 25th annual Cultural Exchange, from 6-10 p.m. in the Community Center, 40250 Dodge Park Road. The public is encouraged to attend this free event.
The 2023 Cultural Exchange will feature a wide array of ethnic music and dance, desserts and light appetizers from 18 area restaurateurs and over 55 educational tables and cultural displays from local groups and organizations. An exciting variety of cultures will be represented at this well-attended event. A minimum donation of $1 is suggested to help fund future events sponsored by the Ethnic Community Committee. Overflow parking will be available right across the street at the Library and City Hall.

"We are looking forward to participation from all the different nationalities in Sterling Heights and surrounding areas," said Kozeta Elzhenni, chairperson of the Ethnic Community Committee. "The goal of the Committee is to facilitate a better understanding of cultural differences that make ethnic communities unique, while developing a foundation for improved understanding and cooperative living. Peaceful co-existence and appreciation for each other is at the heart of what we're all about."
Participating restaurants include Antonio's Italian Market, Chickpea Kitchen, El Charro, Farhat Sweets, Holiday Pizza, Ike's Restaurant, Ishtar Restaurant, Isla Detroit, the Italian American Cultural Society, Jet's Pizza, Lily Sweets, Maatouk Bakery, Mannino' Bakery, Mike's Kabob Grille, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Srodek's and Ummi's Kitchen. The Committee extends their gratitude to those restaurants that donated food or offered a generous discount on purchased items.
The eleven-member Sterling Heights Ethnic Community Committee was formed in 1990. Its goals include developing understanding and improving the communication among diverse races and ethnic groups in the city. For more information, call Community Relations at (586) 446-2470.
