'Sci-Phonic' concert returns in April with fascinating movie music
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Michimich -- Topping off an outstanding 78th season, the Michigan Philharmonic brings back a unique brand of high energy music with a "Sci-Phonic II" finale later this month.
The Phil's musical ode to science fiction, fantasy and anime, "Sci-Phonic II – Anime and Adventure," is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Canton. This final concert will take listeners on a journey through otherworldly music, with everything from "Stars Wars" and "Star Trek" to "Lord of the Rings" and "World of Warcraft."
As one of Michigan's finest orchestras, the Plymouth-based Philharmonic celebrates a wide range of classical and pops music that connects, engages, and creates unique experiences. This year the symphony continues celebrating the 25th year Music Director and Conductor Nan Washburn has led the regional symphony.

The featured music includes "World of Warcraft" by Russell Brower," "Star Trek Through the Years" by Jerry Goldsmith, "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Symphonic Suite" by Howard Shore, and "My Neighbor Totoro" by Joe Hisaiski. Other music includes "Suite from Taken" by Laura Karpman, "Video Games Live Suite" arranged by Ralph Ford, and "Zack Snyder's Justice League" by Tom Holkenborg.
A "Stars Wars Medley" by John Williams will feature members of the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO), which is led by Hektor Qyteti and Dennis Carter, in a "side by side" performance.
