~ Sterling Heights, MI - The City of Sterling Heights Department of Parks and Recreation has announced a public meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 7 p.m. during the Sterling Heights City Council meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input on a proposed property acquisition at 37217 Utica Road.
The City intends to submit a grant application to the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) in order to assist with the purchase of approximately 13.75 acres of land located on the south side of Utica Road, directly across from Rotary Park. This property includes roughly 1,000 feet of frontage along Utica Road.

If approved, this acquisition would not only preserve the property but also expand green space within the community. The grant request will be for an amount equal to the market value of the property and the City is required to provide a 30 percent local match of the total project cost.
The public meeting will take place at Sterling Heights City Hall in the Council Chamber, located at 40555 Utica Road. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide comments regarding the proposed grant application.
